You can leave the choice of a background color to us, or you can instruct us to use any color in the world!

In most cases, the best color to use is a very pale shade or pure white. This is because of readability — studies have shown that strong colors beneath text make it much harder to read. And the longer your text is, the more critical it becomes that you don't hinder the reader from absorbing your message.

That's why dark colors, like black, navy blue, dark green and so on may well look good on screen (or in magazines) but aren't suitable when you are using hundreds of words.

There are exceptions to this principle — for example if you are aiming at a teenage readership or wish to operate a site for a heavy metal band, especially if you are using a lot of graphics rather than long pieces of text — in such cases a dark color can be very effective.

This page presents a selection of colors to help you in finding the right background and theme for your site. Remember you can of course choose any color you like, and can even request a variation of those illustrated below. For example, you could say you like the "pale green", but want it even paler. Or if you find a website that you like, you can request a similar color by telling us its address.
